Description

Himalayan Snuff Container from the 1900’s, handcrafted from Tibet and made from a small Yak or Water Buffalo Horn. Snuff, a mixture of tobacco and soot used by both men and women at all levels of society, is still very popular within Tibet. The substance was inhaled to achieve a similar sensation as if smoking tobacco. Yak & Water Buffalo Horns are associated with protection and tribute. This container was certainly used by the nomadic tribes and allowing for the size perhaps a woman. Filled at the larger end - the snuff was retrieved via the narrow end. It is a fine example of the sadly fading nomadic culture within Tibet.

Size: 7 inches long end to end
