A Gau is a Tibetan Buddhist prayer box: a small devotionally beautifully created and detailed container used to hold and carry powerful amulet objects, written prayers or other sacred items. This Gau is very old and it’s internal object long ago removed. It is beautiful in craftsmanship and detail (made of silver with a copper back).

A remarkable Gau artifact from the Himalayan country of Mustang. It is in excellent condition and 100 yrs. old; Inside a small rupa of Buddha offering blessings. The outside is devotionally rendered, in silver, by two dragons - the inside case in made of copper.
A Gau is a portable shrine. Traditionally carried by Tibetan nomads to enshrine the owners personal Deity. Prayers and other good-luck items were stored inside to evoke blessings and protection for the traveler.
Size: 4.5" tall x 3.50" across x 1.50" deep. note the rare orginial seal is intact and complete with original case.

Bodhi Seed Mala, each bead is hand carved from a seed of a tree of the type Buddha reached Enlightenment under - Mala's are prayer beads used to keep count of Mantras prayers used to concentrate and protect the mind. There are 108 beads representing 108 books of Buddhist teachings. Their is often a 109th bead representing the Guru (teacher) Other beads are bone and coral - the counters are heavy brass (maybe copper) in the form of of a lotus- size; 41" circumference (03/05) there are 2 available.

Ancient Ivory Mala (1), each bead is hand carved - Mala's are prayer beads used to keep count of Mantras prayers used to concentrate and protect the mind. There are 108 beads representing 108 books of Buddhist teachings. Their is often a 109th bead representing the teacher.
Other beads are coral and turquoise - the counters are silver - the Mala has been restrung - size; 34" circumference, it has a very beautiful presence. (4/06#3)

These are Mala (heavy silver or nickel?) prayer counters from Nepal. They carry the synbolism of the Buddhist 'Three precious jewels'. Lama Nurbu sent me many of these sets - they are in excellent condition and of good size/weight. (09/05#counter) - priced each set of two.
Used with and attached to a Mala (Buddhist prayer beads) to count the number circuits of prayers (one completed circuit movess one bead up) there are 10 beads to each counter - Larger photos avaialable -
