Rahula Protector Statue: Nepal, 20th Century, Rare
Rahula (Tibetan: kyab jug): Rahula is one of the worldly protector of the Dharma teachings and one of the eight highest protector deities. Despite his wrathful appearance, he is a Bodhisattva, an embodiment of compassion who acts for the benefit of sentient beings. His function is to avert the inner and outer obstacles that prevent beings from attaining spiritual realizations. He is a protector of 'revealed treasures' or ‘termas’. His lower body is that of a ‘Naga’ coiled serpent spirit, poised to spring in any direction.
